Former first lady Melania Trump unveiled her first non-fungible token (NFT) on Thursday and it will only be available to buy until the end of the year.
The NFT costs 1 SOL, a cryptocurrency that currently costs around $182 and includes an audio recording of Trump delivering a message of hope. To buy NFTs, a person must create a cryptocurrency wallet, which can be easily done on a computer, and then buy enough cryptocurrency to cover the cost of NFTs.
The Trump NFT marketplace only accepts Solana currency, but a person can use any wallet that supports paying with SOL. The Trump website recommends using the Phantom wallet.
Those who are using the Phantom wallet for the first time will be prompted to create a new wallet after adding the Phantom wallet extension to a supported web browser. One of the first popups will be a secret recovery code and password, which Phantom recommends people store in a safe place because they can’t be retrieved later.
Once the wallet is created, the user can purchase SOL directly from the Phantom wallet via the MoonPay payment method, or transfer SOL from another exchange, such as Coinbase. A press release from the former first lady’s office said they will also accept credit card payments through MoonPay.
A person then needs to connect their crypto wallet to MelaniaTrump.com using the “connect wallet” button on their website. Once the wallet is connected, users can purchase the NFT using the “buy now” button. Purchases are transferred to users’ wallets by clicking “Claim Purchase”.
Rump’s first NFT features a watercolor portrait of his eyes and an audio message reading, “My vision is: to look forward with inspiration, strength, and courage.”
Part of the proceeds from the NFT will help children out of foster care, according to a press release from Trump’s office.
“I am proud to announce my new NFT effort, which embodies my passion for the arts and will support my continued commitment to children through my Be Best initiative,” Trump said in a statement. “Through this new technology-based platform, we will provide children with computer skills, including programming and software development, to thrive after they age out of the host community.”
Trump has plans to release other non-fungible tokens at “regular intervals” on the platform. It will also hold an auction in January that will include digital artwork, physical artwork, and a one-of-a-kind accessory.
