According to Vice, the growth and expansion of the non-fungible token (NFT) cryptocurrency has led to an increase in the number of racist collections. Collections continue to amaze the masses with NFTs depicting George Floyd billed as “Floydies” until a more recent project by the name of “Meta Slave”.

Instead of apologizing after the backlash, OpenSea has simply changed its name so that the collection includes images of Black, Asian, and other non-Black people.

The creation was put together by a user known as Unipic, whose Twitter handle is now disabled, @UniqueFractal.
METAVERSE TRADING NFTS IN THE FORM OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN SLAVES
The collection initially pledged its support for the Black Lives Matter movement and intended to honor George Floyd, but images associated with the project prove otherwise.
SLAVE TRAFFICKING DURING BLACK HISTORY MONTH
“Hello! We are pleased to inform you that we have launched the first sales of NFT META SLAVE”, read an announcement of the project on Twitter. “This project was inspired by Black Lives Matter and also in honor of George Floyd.” This is an obvious hoax. Has money from these floydies been donated to your family or foundation? No. This was done in mockery. Even though polite language hides the true intention.
RACISM: ALIVE AND WELL IN FACEBOOK’S METAVERSE
Amid backlash, Meta Slave, an NFT project, is rebranding after racism is found in the project. The project was first reported in late January. They have posted some interesting tweets along with the NFT collection. In response to the uproar and outrage, it appears that they are renaming themselves Meta Humans.
NFTS OF REAL AFROAMERICANS SOLD INTO THE METAVERSE
According to a series of tweets from the project, this is all a huge misunderstanding. In a tweet. In a Tweet they said: “When creating our project, we wanted to show that everyone is a slave to something. Slave of desires, of work, of money, etc.” If this were the case, why not sell slaves of another race or ethnic group? Should viewers believe it’s a coincidence that black people are being sold as NFTs during Black History Month?
BLACK ANTI-RACISM IN THE FACEBOOK METAVERSE
The explanation obscures the fact that the project is blatantly racist and has obvious racial overtones. An individual with a shred of humanity would realize that this is not a good idea and raise serious questions about the intentions of the project.
THE META SLAVE NFT COLLECTION POINTS TO A MORE SIGNIFICANT ISSUE IN THE NFT SPACE
First of all, every image in the algorithmically generated 1,865-piece NFT collection is of a Black person. This appears to be an intentional mockery of a brutal and barbaric system that killed millions of people.
In fact, the consequences of slavery still resonate in today’s society; It wasn’t that long ago. The NFT number (1865) was also the year slavery was abolished in the US.
RACISM CUT WITH INSINCERE APOLOGY
Additionally, the project lists an NFT as “Hard Work” with a smiley face and plant emoji . All this cannot be a coincidence.
Members of the NFT space should do more to denounce racist projects like Meta Slave. Such projects are simply not welcome. OpenSea quickly killed the project, and fortunately, the NFT community has not accepted NFTS. So far, only two units have been sold. Most of the NFT community is disgusted by the racist NFT collections.
