If you could be who you want to be, who would you be? How exciting is it to think that you could start a new chapter in your life in a whole new world? Without the limitations of the physical world and the human constructions that have been created around you?

Well, that’s where the Metaverse comes into play. Whole new worlds are being created that will remove the physical limitations of life and allow you to pursue your dreams and be who you want to be.

Sounds pretty exciting right? Let’s dig a little deeper to understand what this would look like.

Simply put, the Metaverse is the convergence of all the digital things you do online into one virtual experience.

In a sense, it already exists. We sit in on Zoom calls, research the web, talk on social media, buy things on Amazon, watch streaming events and online videos, and play games. The Metaverse is already here.

But think about bringing it all together and removing some of the limitations that still exist in your physical life when you access the web.

But how is this suddenly now possible?

embrace the metaverse

The Metaverse will be possible thanks to Web 3.0 technologies. I’m going to keep this level high because it gets technical pretty quickly.

Web 3.0 is based on Blockchain technology. This enables digital tracking and digital exchange of value through cryptocurrencies like Euthereum. And on some of these blockchains, they have what are called smart contracts, the ability to digitally track transactions to enable the purchase of products that you probably know as NFTs (non-fungible tokens).

Another key component is called decentralized computing. Think of it as leveraging everyone’s personal computers around the world to power applications on the Internet. Take all the downtime from your computers and take advantage of it while removing control from central authorities. Yes freedom!

Then think if you could access data and functionality from any business or application around the world and feed it into your application in real time. This is becoming possible with what is called an API. You can create a super app from everyone else’s app, great! This enables Metaverse experiences to replicate the functionality of any application and create new services never before thought possible.

All of this is now coming together as you increase distribution capacity and computing power, remove current monetary policies, integrate other applications, and develop new ways to facilitate transactions. It’s a whole new world. It’s only up to your imagination what can be possible in the Metaverse of the future.

It will be up to users to create their own new worlds, similar to games like Minecraft or Roblox, which are very popular among the younger generation and have been around for some time. So if you’re wondering where this is going, just ask your kids, that’s what I do.

Well, now that we’ve melted your brain with tech buzzwords, how are you going to simply access the Metaverse?

embrace the metaverse

As I said before, in a way, you are already accessing the Metaverse. If you’re sitting at home, taking Zoom calls, researching and buying things online, or playing online games, you’re technically already in the metaverse.

What is going to start to change is the interface and how tightly woven the experience will be. You won’t need to visit a bunch of different websites or apps to live in the Metaverse—it’s all in one virtual experience.

You’ll end up creating an online avatar, how you want it to look in the metaverse. Since you can dream here, be creative, you can be whoever you want to be here.

You will need to get up to speed with crypto and set up a wallet, because many of these virtual worlds won’t let you in if you don’t have one, because everyone wants you to buy things. Metamask is popular, check it out. And many players are already doing this in games like Fortnight, attending events and making in-game purchases to personalize their experience.

Then you can start visiting online virtual worlds that bring all of this together. Two popular metaverses right now that you might start poking around in are Decentraland and Sandbox. You can visit Snoop Dog’s land in Sandbox, or Samsung just opened a huge retail store in Decentraland you can visit.

Ok, for companies like Samsung that are moving into the Metaverse, how will they market themselves?

Since we are a marketing agency, we start to dream about what the marketing opportunities will be in the Metaverse. Pretty unlimited.

You won’t be confined to billboards or banners for marketing, even experiential events.

Perhaps, you could paint the sky with your creative message with little effort.

It is possible that you could be rewarded with crypto just for making someone who sees your advertising creative smile. .

You know how everyone is buying sports clips now in the real world like on Fanfare? You may be able to purchase virtual gaming experiences such as NFTs from a group of bots playing a virtual game in the Metaverse.

Then you will have to manage your marketing avatar bots that run your virtual store.

For creative people, it will be a dreamland of creative ideas you could implement to persuade and entertain a whole new world of open-minded people. Some companies are betting their businesses on it, like Facebook rebranding Meta, and others like Microsoft expanding further into gaming with Activision’s biggest commercial game acquisition of Blizzard. Who will really win the race to this new frontier and own the Metaverse? How is it going to develop? It’s really hard to tell right now, but it’s certainly going to be exciting to watch.

I could go on writing about all the possibilities of the Metaverse, but this would require a lot more than a blog post. It would be more like a book, or several books.

And I could link to a bunch of articles here to burn a little more of your time, but the thing to do is start experiencing it. Get a crypto wallet, join decentraland and start watching it happen for real.

Also, watch some movies. All the world’s problems are solved in movies at some point. Check out Free Guy or Ready Player One, or if you want to go over to the dark side, check out Mr. Robot. If you pay attention, these can give you an idea of what the Metaverse will look like. Like all transitions in technology, this will take some time, but technology adoption cycles are happening faster and faster, so this may be upon you before you know it.

So, what are you waiting for? Get out there, dream a little and be a part of the future.
